What is it?

uCON64 Frontend is a BeOS GUI frontend for the console tool uCON64. It is coded by PlanetMir for BeOS R5 in 2001 - 2003. Purpose is to control all uCON64 functions for cartridge console systems and backup units from a GUI.

uCON64 is coded by NoisyB and others, official homepage is http://uCON64.sourceforge.net. Get the BeOS version there or at PlanetMir, as it is needed for running this Frontend! Short description of uCON64 follows:

uCON64 is a tool to backup all kinds of video game media (Cartridges and CDs). It supports most available backup units for cartridge-based consoles and has a lot more options, like diverse ROM modification. It can operate as an intelligent frontend for every emulator available. Some features:

As uCON64 supports nearly all cartridge console formats, you can guess that there are lots and lots of options/switches. So it can be quite ennerving to remember and type all this in the terminal, especially if you have to do several different operations on the same Rom image.
That's where this Frontend aims to help- offer a more intuitive user interface for this complex tool, so that uCON64 usage gets easy, and so that one recognizes what kind of options and console systems are available at all. Commonly known concepts like Recent files menus, good Desktop integration, and Tool tips make it easy and fast to use. The Frontend will also display most of the dependencies between the options by disabling elements that can't be selected in conjunction with the currently selected option, something you won't get in the Terminal. Then the -emu option is a handy function to launch an Emulator with an inserted file and predefined switches- read Installation for more info on that. Well, hope you like it!
