Software Downloads

This is the software section of Planet Mir, where you can download programs for BeOS, Linux and the good old Atari ST. The programs are either software created by others, typically by a Linux open source project, therefor software that we only ported to one of our supported platforms due to the availability of the source code of the original projects.
And you'll also find programs here that we created and coded using C / C++ with the free gcc compiler package. We hope these programs fill a gap for BeOS, Atari or Linux, and that you'll like them! Nevertheless: Nobody but the end user is responsible for the consequences of using this software! No Warranty!

SOX

SoX, the Sound eXchanger, is a command-line utility which converts between a huge number of sound formats. You can add effects and a lot of other useful processes to the audiodata. Think of it as a universal sound sample translator.
SoX is available as binary for many platforms and as source code package from this page: http://sox.sf.net/
The current maintainer of the SoX project and the official homepage is Chris Bagwell.

Please note that I am not the creator of SoX or have sth. to do with the sox homepage mentioned above, I just compiled the source code for BeOS- so all credits go to the authors and copyright owners of the original SoX sources! Please refer to the official sox homepage or the documentation included in the archive for more info.

Notes for Atari ST:
The SoX package below includes compiled and stripped binaries and Atari-specific documentation, as well as the original docs. It was tested on Atari ST/ Mac MINT, normal GEM TOS and MagiC Mac. Likely works on other Atari compatible platforms too, and should also work on TT and Falcon hardware. I will not compile newer versions than the one below unless someone really wants it (i.e. for Atari ST).

Notes for BeOS:
The latest SoX packages below include ready-to-run compiled binaries for BeOS R5 (and up) together with a modified playscript and BeOS-specific documentation, as well as the original SoX docs and an Installer/Uninstaller. Version 12.17.8 and up features two seperate builds, one which will run without having any optional libraries installed, and the other with dynamically compiled in support for libmad, liblame and ogg-vorbis-libs (MP3 and OGG encoding/decoding). You'll need an installed LibPak for the latter version to work.

uCON64

uCON64 is a tool to backup all kinds of video game media (Cartridges and CDs). It supports most available backup units for cartridge-based consoles and has a lot more options, like diverse ROM modification. It can operate as an intelligent frontend for every emulator available. STILL IN DEVELOPMENT/*NO* IT IS NOT AN EMULATOR/IT IS A BACKUP TOOL.

Some features:
Binary versions for Linux, FreeBSD, Dos, BeOS and others available at http://ucon64.sourceforge.net, as well as the source code. uCON64 is developed by NoisyB and others. It may be freely redistributed under the terms of the GNU Public License.

The ucon64 versions for BeOS below are readily compiled for x86. Included is an Installer, a needed parallel port driver for BeOS by Caz Jones and the documentation of uCON64. The latest package 1.9.8 beta7 has CD libdiscmage, database and zlib support compiled in. The reason I keep them here is that these older versions are fully compatible with our BeOS GUI Frontend, also available below.
Keep in mind that the latest uCON64 versions are always available at the uCON64 homepage, compiled by the uCON64 developers themselves.

There's also GUI Frontend for BeOS available which is developed by us. One can control all uCON64 functions for cartridge console systems in a GUI with it. See a screenshot, or read the documentation online if you like.

Update 2004-02-02: uCON64 programmers introduced massive changes to its syntax again which breaks compatibility with the GUI Frontend: I'd have to restructure the internals of the GUI Frontend, but I don't have time and fun to do so anymore. Below is a version with some small but important changes (e.g. the new --port option), 1.0.4 BETA, now under GPL license. It is largely compatible with uCON64 1.9.8-2. Would be nice if someone would pick up the frontend for BeOS project.

LITTLE SHELL

This application is coded in BeOS-native C++. It is something like a LauncherApp with intelligent features like Autocomplete from history and good integration into Tracker (the Desktop of BeOS, should you not know). Basically, you just enter bash-alike commands into the commandbar and hit Enter to trigger one of its features. Btw, the rounded CommandBar is definitely NOT Dano, it is my own implementation of a TextControl with animation and integrated Autocomplete ;-)

Some of the features of LittleShell are:
